PublicCity: "Movement" Classes at CLAY in Mumbai
WHAT:
CLAY Wellness Studio, Mumbai in collaboration with Meera Mittal presents "Movement" - a discovery of your personal dance form.
------------------------------
What is Movement?
To quote Isadora Duncan, "If I could tell you that, I wouldn't have to dance it." (Isadora Duncan, when asked what one of her dances meant). :)
Even so to explore... What is Movement?
In Physics: Physical motion between points in space. The creation of action. In Music: a self-contained section of a larger work such as a symphony. In Dance: An expression of ideas or thought, through gesture or transfer of weight.
Movement is....
....a form of dynamic expression. ....a form of contemporary dance. ....an exploration of one's unique rhythm and style of dance. ....a form of dance-theater. ....the free play of the body to music. ....for people of all age groups and fitness levels.

About CLAY:
CLAY is the brainchild of fashion designer Anita Dongre.
An enthusiast of good health, fitness and spiritual well being, Anita wanted to bring to the busy Mumbaiite a wellness center that would offer solutions to improving lifestyles, from the physical to the emotional. By
converting a beautiful, cozy cottage in the heart of Bandra's Pali village into a haven of natural beauty, CLAY's wooden, earthy interiors, exercise studio and little green garden make it an inviting and peaceful place
where you can relax and breathe easy.
The CLAY approach to self enhancement touches upon the external as well as internal. We believe that transformation is total only if the mind and body are addressed simultaneously.
-------------------------------- WHY: (if you're still reading) :)
About Contemporary Dance:
Contemporary Dance can be conceived as a new way of thinking about dance today. A form of expression through movement that processes memory, experience and imagination. The emphasis of contemporary
dance is on:
+ Originality
+ Innovation
+ Creativity
+ Interdisciplinarity
+ Exciting
Contemporary dance engages with daily concerns, issues and experiences and offers immense possibilities of integrating technology in dance. Many of the best contemporary dance performances are a spectacle of
light, sound, digital arts and movement, unleashing creativity to its zenith. It goes beyond the narrative form of expression and becomes a total sensorial experience for the audience, a visual poetry of sorts.
Contemporary dance truly represents the globalised ethos of today, thriving on cultural exchange, breaking barriers of language, and yet projecting a sense of the unique culture of a region on to a world arena.
Contemporary forms of expression grew in strength since the early part of the 20 th century in Europe and the US and later spread to all parts of the world. Internationally, contemporary dance is the fastest growing art form in countries like the UK. In India too, it is a niche form of expression that is finding an increasing number of patrons and audiences.
