Stirring up Ideas- My Jack’s Story
It had been just another evening. A couple of friends, getting around for some drinks after work talking stuff like they usually did. As was the case with this bunch, the conversation began with the chaos at work & the reasons why they continued to work towards improving things around them. To them, the workplace wasn’t just where the pay-cheque came from, it was more. There was a certain amount of pride in the work that they did, and the high standards to which they held themselves to.

As we shared a Jack Daniel’s, the conversation soon moved to larger, more serious issues. Chief among them had been the fact that while each one of them had done well for themselves, there still was that strong earning, to create something, to give back to their city. But unlike most other conversations that occur around drinks, this one had a mellow fire burning deep within their souls.
It was around time that the ice was renewed & another shot poured out of the iconic Old No. 7 bottle, and then we came up with something interesting. The idea was simple – to green our city by planting one sapling at a time. And with that simple thought, the friends pooled around some money and bought themselves a few saplings. As they went around their colony, planting those saplings, they decided to expand their efforts.
Soon enough, a website was created and The Sapling Project was born. It reached out through Facebook & Twitter, spreading its message to all those cared. People caught on, and soon, the friends were going around city on their weekly off with a van full of saplings for people to take away for plantation.

The thought of a greener city had existed since a long time. What made the difference was the force behind it. That evening with friends, conversation and that iconic bottle resting alongside the ice bucket, provided the spark They’d taken an oft-visited idea & nurture it into a growing movement with branches in different parts of the city, country & the world.
The beauty of that inspiring tale of events was that it urges people to stop thinking about the world in terms of the present, and look at it as a legacy, a gift, we need to give to the generations that are to come, long after we are gone.
