General Insurance Corporation of India is engaged in the business of Reinsurance.

Only 2% shares are with Public, GOI holds 85%, rest are with Institutions.

Reinsurance occurs when multiple insurance companies share risk by purchasing insurance policies from other insurers to limit their own total loss. GIC Re has ~64% share in the Indian reinsurance market.

Investments[6] The book value of investment as on 31st March 2021 has increased to 68,798.54 cr. Income from investment including Profit on Sale amounted to 8,443.55 cr.
Out of the total investment the company invested 35,764.93 cr. in Government Securities and State guaranteed Bonds.
