Types of accounts in NPS
National Pension System (NPS) is a defined-contribution pension system in India regulated by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) which is under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Finance of the Government of India.
NPS was launched in 2004 with the objective of providing a voluntary retirement savings scheme for citizens of India. It is a portable scheme, which means that subscribers can transfer their accumulated pension wealth from one NPS account to another without any tax implications.
The subscribers can choose to invest their accumulated pension wealth in a variety of asset classes, including equity, debt, and hybrid funds. The asset allocation can be changed at any time, subject to certain conditions.
